ARTIST BIO

As fosterfalls Memphis songwriter Sherrod Foster (they/them) fuses introspective lyrics, ethereal looper arrangements, and dreamy production to create an enveloping sound. Their live performances lead audiences on a lively quest into a mystic forest to meet themselves.
Foster has appeared on Memphis area stages like Memphis Mushroom Festival and Goner’s Record Store Day gazebo and made stops across the Southeast. They have been featured in We Are Memphis Music, The Daily Memphian, and Canvas Rebel and on local stations WYXR and Radio Memphis. Their sophomore single “Ask the Cards” was selected as October 2023’s best new track by Out the Box magazine and recommended in the latest issue of Focus magazine’s “Queer Up Your Playlist.” This fall Foster looks forward to the release of their debut EP Somniscience to streaming and to cassette through Big Tobacco Records, supported by a regional tour.

SOMNISCIENCE EP BIO

Somniscience is recurring dreamfolk songwriter fosterfalls’ debut EP, recorded by Foster in their home studio in Memphis with contributions from Memphis Symphony Orchestra flutist Delara Hashemi. Somniscience is an atmospheric folk journey through a mythic dream driven by ethereal vocals, nylon string guitar and an undercurrent of cathartic energy.
From roots somn- “sleep” and -science “knowledge,” the concept project explores themes of dreams and self-knowing. In four songs, Somniscience leads you on an interior hero’s journey. The title track introduces you as the hero called in dreams to a mysterious path. In ‘The Interpreter” you’ll relive an Arthurian dream of Foster’s in which they sword fight their inner child and cling to the fateful weapon. Sword in hand, you’ll trek through “In A Vale”s meditative looping landscapes and reflect on your passage in stripped down “Hourglass.” Rich with nature and fantasy imagery woven into haunting folk melodies and punctuated by swirling flutes and crunchy synths, Somniscience sets the scene for an internal quest of your own creation. It will be released October 18th 2024 and with Big Tobacco’s 10th tape batch.
